What BLACKOUT is
BLACKOUT is a browser-based tool for redacting and watermarking PDF documents. It runs in your browser; your documents are not sent to us. See the Privacy Policy for details.
Plans and payment
- Each browser gets one free export. After that, an active plan is required.
- The monthly plan is £7 per month and the annual plan is £59 per year. Both renew automatically until cancelled. The lifetime plan is a single payment of £99 and does not renew.
- Payments are handled by Stripe. Prices are shown before you are charged and no charge is made without you confirming it at Stripe's checkout.
Cancelling
You can cancel a monthly or annual subscription at any time, in one click, through Stripe's billing portal, reachable from the tool page. There is no retention flow and no need to contact us. Cancelling stops future renewals; access continues to the end of the period you have already paid for. The lifetime plan is a one-off purchase, so there is nothing to cancel.
Refunds
If BLACKOUT does not work for you, email us within 14 days of payment and we will refund you. You do not need to give a reason.
Access is tied to your browser
Because BLACKOUT has no accounts or passwords, your access is stored as a signed cookie in the browser you paid from. If you clear cookies or move to another browser or device, use “Restore access” on the tool page to have a one-time link emailed to the address you paid with. Keep access to that email address; without it, and without the cookie, we may not be able to restore your access.
Acceptable use
Do not use BLACKOUT to break the law, to conceal information you are legally required to disclose, to tamper with evidence, or to alter documents you have no right to alter. You are responsible for what you redact and for what you do with the result.
No warranty, and the limits of automatic detection
BLACKOUT is provided as is, without warranties of any kind. This matters more than it usually does, so it is worth being specific:
- Automatic detection matches patterns. It does not read or understand your document, it will miss sensitive information that does not match a supported pattern, and OCR of scanned pages introduces further errors. It is an assistant, not a guarantee.
- You are responsible for reviewing every page of an exported document before you share it. Do not rely on this tool, or any tool, as your only check on a document whose disclosure would harm someone.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, our liability arising from your use of BLACKOUT is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
Changes
We may update these terms. Material changes will be reflected in the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use BLACKOUT after a change means you accept the updated terms.
